Position Title: Athletic Director
Location: Camp Akiba – Pocono Mountains, PA
Duration: 8 weeks on site (1 week of staff training + 6 weeks of camp); 3 day Spring Planning session
Key Responsibilities: - Teach, coach, and supervise a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, tennis, and more.
- Plan and implement daily sports instruction tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
- Organize and manage inter-camp games and tournaments, coordinating with other camps and ensuring smooth logistics.
- Maintain sports equipment and facilities, ensuring all areas are safe, well-prepared, and fully stocked.
- Lead and motivate athletic staff, ensuring consistent instruction and enthusiastic camper participation.
- Foster good sportsmanship, teamwork, and confidence in campers through positive coaching and role modeling.
- Collaborate with camp leadership to incorporate athletics into the larger camp program, including special events like Color War.
Qualifications: - Strong background in coaching and/or physical education with the ability to teach multiple sports.
- Past camp experience required, with demonstrated ability to thrive in a residential camp environment.
- Programming experience with planning and running age-appropriate athletic schedules, leagues, and events.
- Ability to speak confidently in front of large groups, leading announcements, games, and camp-wide events.
- Prior experience working with children and managing staff in a camp, school, or recreational setting preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and committed to the camp’s values of teamwork, inclusion, and fun.
