Employment Attorney (Plaintiff-Side)

Law Offices of William Cafaro seeks a dedicated and passionate Employment Attorney able to hit the ground running in our plaintiff-side practice and help grow it. We are committed to fighting for working people. We handle discrimination claims, with an emphasis on sexual improprieties and harassment, and we also do wage and hour claims which have class action and/or 216(b) collective action potential. Looking for a self-starter with a sense of “hustle”. An individual with the right work ethic, dedication and practical ability to get things done could potentially become an equity partner in the employment aspect of the practice down the road.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pick up and run with a diverse caseload of plaintiff-side employment litigation, including but not limited to, claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations.
• There will be too large of a caseload for one attorney on Day 1, so I am looking for someone to collaborate on efficient and economical outsourcing.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Represent clients in court proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations.
• Conduct and defend depositions.
• Communicate effectively with clients, providing clear and compassionate counsel throughout the legal process.
• Negotiate settlements and advocate for the best possible outcomes.

Qualifications:

• Admitted to practice in New York - I don’t care where you went to law school.
• Minimum 5 -8 years of experience practicing employment law, with a strong demonstrated plaintiff-side commitment.
• Must be completely comfortable in both state and federal courts.
• Must be able to successfully manage a significant caseload from intake to settlement.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to client service.
• Trial experience would be a big plus but is not expected.
• CAVEAT – If you would not be willing to go to trial, this position is not for you.

Preferred Skills:

• Bilingual Spanish is highly desirable but not required.
• Experience with FLSA class actions and/or § 216(b) collectives a plus.

This is for someone who can independently run their own show. Coming in to the office will initially be expected, but it will also be expected that the applicant will demonstrate enough independence to work remotely before very long.

Compensation will be negotiated depending upon the applicant’s experience and upon the commission rate expected on incoming settlements.
