Position Title: Health & Safety Manager, NA

Department: QHSE

Reports To: Sr. Manager Global Health & Safety Operations

Location: North America – Hybrid in Austin, TX OR Houston, TX

Position Summary:

This is an opportunity to join an organization that demonstrates a proactive health and safety management system, combined with strong employee engagement and an environment that fosters continuous improvement. You will provide leadership within the Global HSE Team, specifically North America activities and performance for both EPC and O&M. You will establish strong working relationships with the regional and site leadership team and the employees. You will report directly to the Sr. Manager Global Health & Safety Operations. As a key leader within the HSE organization you will direct sustainable health and safety programs through incorporation of impactful operating processes and keeping in front of leading practices in health and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides formal supervision to HSE Specialists within North America.
  • Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime.
  • Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff.
  • Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies.
  • Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
  • Implements HSE standards.
  • Provide technical assistance.
  • Site compliance reviews.
  • Support the implementation and execution of the HSE Training program which will include the education of teams on safety procedures and ensure they are being followed.
  • Serves as an effective coach and role model.
  • Develops and deploys safety initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining the “Safety & Environmental Dashboard” which tracks the safety and environmental incidents of internal and external parties.
  • Ensures KPIs, monitors injury, illness, and incident related performance is maintained and analyzed. Monitors performance for trends or other indicators of improving or degrading incident performance and develops and implements strategic solutions that will improve performance results in line with the QHSE department.
  • Support the development, planning and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and the ongoing maintenance of these documents ensuring compliance with local, state and/or federal rules and regulations.
  • Acts as a resource to regional HSE specialists, advisors, and internal customers as the HSE Subject Matter Expert. Provides direct and timely advice and information to management in all matters related to performance, compliance, trends, and concerns.
  • Monitors regulatory compliance and communicates all findings, concerns, and deficiencies to the responsible managers to effect timely and necessary corrections.
  • Builds and implements solutions that support efforts to improve and maintain compliance.
  • Responsible for maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable regional legal and legislative requirements, accreditation and client policies and procedures.
  • Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts.
  • Help maintain implement and maintain ISO 9001/45001/14001 certification.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field, degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated experience with regional safety and environmental regulations along with progressive HSE experience.
  • Direct experience working with regulatory agencies and / or compliance officers is required.
  • Preference in engineering, manufacturing, safety, environmental science, facilities, or related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Use innovative thinking to create continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Progressive experience in Facilities programs.
  • Experience in successfully leading a team.
  • Lean/six sigma experience is desired.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret business documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues, write reports, manuals, speeches, and articles.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups.
  • Ability to motivate key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.
  • Preferred certifications to include CSP, CIH, CHMM, OHST
  • Up to 50% travel.
