Job Description

Under the supervision of the Chief Judge, the incumbent assists the judges of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court System by conducting legal research and preparing draft memoranda of decision for a period of employment lasting one year. The position requires attendance at trials, hearings and pre-trial conferences, as well as the ability to comprehensively review legal pleadings, motions, briefs, exhibits and transcripts. Graduate from an accredited law school with high academic standing and excellent legal writing skills are required. Demonstrated previous experience in Native American law and/or Tribal justice systems desirable. Must be able to use word processing applications and possess a moderate typing ability. Familiarity with Westlaw on-line computer legal research services, internet research and other legal resources desirable. Incumbent will be required to execute a sworn Statement of Confidentiality. Incumbent must not have been convicted in any court of either a felony offense or any other offense requiring proof of dishonesty or the illegal use or abuse of any substance. Must have a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
