Full Time Maintenance and Custodian

DESCRIPTION:

Polaris Tech is seeking full-time Maintenance/Custodian staff to take care of our buildings and carry out cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.

This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.

Essential Job Functions:

● Perform and document routine inspections and maintenance activities.

● Identify and diagnose minor damages.

● Notify management of occurring deficiencies and/or needs for repairs.

● Perform maintenance and minor repairs including but not limited to, replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.

● Report major damages and oversee repairs including but not limited to contacting the appropriate vendors, scheduling, and signing off at completion of project.

● Complete monthly “Facility Maintenance” checklist as required.

● Schedule and oversee fire drills including checking safety lighting and various pull switches each time

● Maintaining furniture and facility inventory via District Manager or any other systems used by Polaris Tech

● Manage summer maintenance and repairs including heavy duty cleaning, inventory update, rental of lifts and necessary equipment for projects, painting and all facility repairs to prepare the building for new students in the fall.

● Light Landscaping duties when needed.

● Shampoo carpets on a routine basis

Secondary Job Functions (in the event the Custodial staff is unavailable):

● Stock and maintain supply rooms.

● Follow all health and safety regulations.

● Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets.

● Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables.

● Clean mirrors, window and stainless-steel areas

● Use floor machine daily on Multi-Purpose room floor and wellness track.

● Ensure all equipment used is cleaned and put away after use.

● All other duties as assigned.

Other Job Functions:

· Serve meals daily to assist with food handling and serving if needed.

· Serve as a back up to Food Service coordinator.

Requirements

Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

● Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role

● Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery.

● Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies

● Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets

● Integrity and ability to work independently.

● High school degree

● Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances

● Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components

● Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices

● Diagnostic skills

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

SKILLS: Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating small equipment; diagnostic.

KNOWLEDGE: Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: fundamentals of cleaning, painting, electrical, landscaping and plumbing work.

ABILITIES: Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Adapting to changing work priorities; displaying mechanical aptitude; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities and working as part of a team as well as individually; lift, carry, push, pull or guide up to 50 pounds individually or more than 50 pounds with assistance.
