JOB SUMMARY


This role drives holistic wellness for students and staff-focusing on physical, nutritional, and overall well-being-and aligns with the division's commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment that addresses the well-being of the whole student. The Specialist guides and supports staff who lead after-school clubs, analyzes wellness efforts, identifies areas of need, and develops data-informed initiatives that strengthen an inclusive and access-focused culture. The role also cultivates partnerships, engages families and the community, and secures resources-including grant funding-to sustain and enhance wellness programming across the division.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides guidance and support to school-based staff and community partners in planning and implementing safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate before- and after-school Challenge Clubs, including coordination with division transportation and operations and facilitation of culminating events (5K races).
  • Conducts hands-on wellness programming in nutrition, healthy eating, cooking, and physical activity including Farm to School initiatives in collaboration with cafeterias, local farms, and community partners.
  • Collaborates with school-based and division staff to plan and implement evidence-based wellness initiatives that enhance student and staff well-being.
  • Collects and analyzes program data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for program improvement and sustainability.
  • Builds partnerships with community organizations, health providers, businesses and nonprofits to expand wellness opportunities and strengthen volunteer engagement.
  • Creates outreach materials and social media postings to promote program visibility.
  • Identifies and pursues grant opportunities; writes proposals, prepares budgets, and ensures compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)


Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Education, Nutrition, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Experience in community outreach, wellness initiatives, or program coordination. Knowledge of wellness promotion, physical activity, nutrition education, and community engagement. Ability to analyze and interpret program data and prepare related reports. Strong written communication skills, including grant writing. Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, families, and community partners. Proficiency with digital tools and communication platforms. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to lift and transport materials. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field. Experience with school-based wellness, youth development, or extended-learning programs. Familiarity with Farm to School practices and community wellness initiatives. Experience managing grant-funded programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


Duties require the ability to work independently on multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate with diverse groups. Work involves both office tasks and active participation in school and community settings. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods; lift up to 25 pounds; use a computer; read printed and digital materials; communicate clearly; and work occasional evenings and weekends for events and outreach.
