Job Summary:

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a Cross-Country coach for the Varsity and JV Program. The Cross-Country Coach will report to the Director of Athletics and work closely with the Head Varsity Cross-Country Coach and Associate Director of Athletics for Upper School. The BB&N Athletic Department expects its coaches to operate within the athletic philosophy of BB&N and adhere to the BB&N coaches’ manual. Responsibilities of this position include but practice planning and meet oversight, mentoring and instructing high-school aged runners in skill development, character development, and teamwork.

The Upper School Coaching Schedule includes a Pre-season meeting on the evening of Monday, August 25. In addition, the season begins on August 27, 2-25 and may extend until November 16, 2025. Practices range from 3:45-6:00 pm.

Essential Functions and Key Objectives:

• Educates individuals, groups, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques of Cross-Country

• Plans, organizes, and leads practice sessions.

• Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for meets and competitive events.

• Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced.

• Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential.

• Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses.

• Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely.

• Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly.

• Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to particular sport or sports.

The ideal candidate should be collaborative, energetic, organized, knowledgeable, flexible, and eager to be an active member of a dynamic athletic and learning community. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a desire to work with Upper school students, a commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community, excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, parents, and colleagues, and great attention to detail.
